More violence in Mountain View
Gunmen Friday night opened fire at a minibus travelling along Mountain View Avenue injuring two passengers, one of them seriously.
The injured passengers, 15-year-old Oshane Bailey of an Eastwood Park Avenue address and Stanhope Muirhead, 30, have since been admitted to hospital.
According to the police, the minibus, which plies the Half Way Tree to Downtown route via Mountain View Avenue, came under attack in the vicinity of Jacques Road. Yesterday, detective corporal Harold Latty of the Elletson Road CIB said it was uncertain where the shots came from.
The incident happened at about 10:00 pm.
“Several explosions were heard (and it was then discovered that) Muirhead received gunshots to his abdomen and stomach and Oshane to his left foot,” Latty told the Sunday Observer.
“(Muirhead’s) condition is considered serious but stable while Oshane’s condition is stable,” he added.
Friday night’s attack came only two weeks after a group of heavily armed gunmen opened fire on a bus transporting about 30 students home from school in the vicinity of Whitfield Town along Maxfield Avenue.
No one was, however, hurt in the attack, which police theorised was an apparent robbery attempt.
Up to yesterday, the police had not established a motive for Friday night’s attack.
Meanwhile, seven persons were murdered in separate incidents between Friday night and early Saturday morning, the Constabulary Communication Network has reported. Another three persons, including the commandant of the Island Special Constabulary Force, were shot and injured.
Among the dead are 26-year-old Ricardo “Money Tree” Tyrell and Fabian “Layla” Malcolm, 23, who was shot by a licensed firearm holder along Waltham Park Road on Friday.
Meanwhile, 36 year-old shopkeeper Trevor McDonald, a resident of Kensington District in Portland, was shot by one of two robbers in his shop in the rural community.
The other victims are:
. Aron “Cow” Domher, a 22-year-old fruit vendor from White Horses St Thomas. He was killed inside his shop by gunmen early Friday Morning. The gunmen also shot and seriously injured a 26 year-old mason from the district.
. Twenty-three year-old Michael Brown of Stewart Town, St Mary who was fatally stabbed by another man, Clive Bramwell, during a fight at Ocean Ridge, Oracabessa.
. Derrick Skier, 29, otherwise called “Tallis” of Beverly Flats, Portmore.
. Thirty-two year-old Paul Elliot, another resident of Beverly Flats, was killed by a group of gunmen who forced their way inside his house at about 4:30 yesterday morning. The gunmen escaped but not before setting the deceased’s house as well as several others ablaze.
